Formula Logic

Reported FCF = cash flow from operations − capital expenditures. Normalized FCF = reported FCF − one-time favorable cash items + one-time adverse cash items. FCF margin = normalized FCF ÷ revenue. FCF/EBITDA conversion = normalized FCF ÷ EBITDA.

Management Use

Use free cash flow to evaluate debt capacity, owner distributions, growth funding, reserve strength, and capital allocation. Do not confuse accounting profit with cash available for deployment.
